Piura
– The
market in every Peruvian town is the center of activity every morning.
Spread out for blocks the little stalls and carts are a fantastic confusing
jumble of color, sound and smells. It can be overwhelming for the uninitiated
and those unable to speak the language. The fishmongers display the catch
in front of them on their table then proceed to gut, scale and fillet
it all for the buyer as they watch. Their hands move quick and sure over
every fish; a skill gained by experience worn heavily on the warped and
marred cutting boards they use. |
