Arequipa
- Every Sunday, the people in this city on the cusp of the Andes
gather in the main square for a procession – a parade of all the
schools and academies in the area. Hundreds of participants gather and
fill up the street and the square. Throughout the morning each group will
march in front of the cabildo and salute the mayor and other dignitaries.
At the end of the street they spill out of formation, loosen their formal
clothes and then head off to lunch and spending the afternoon with their
compatriots. |
