Simbila – For more than half a century, Emillio Jamon Llaumanaque has made pots from the clay of the Piura River. His powerful arms can craft giant vases and tiny spoons with equal ease. While many of the artists in this region are known for their ornamental works, those from Simbila are renowned for the simple practical pieces they craft. These are pots for cooking, not flowers. The ceramicists of Simbila use the ancient methods that require a stone and paddle - a potter's wheel is unknown and unecessary.
