Choco – The clouds break upon the mountains at Choco like wispy waves upon the rocks – slowly, silently but just as majestic. The valley here is terraced with small farms burnt into the mountainside. The remains of Incan fields constructed in exactly the same manner can still be seen in the silhouette of the ridges. The jungle-like forest only holds on in the ravines. And even in the middle of summer the nights are brutally cold. Nowhere is the paradox of Peru - staggering beauty hand in hand with stark survival - more evident that here.
