Patapampa – Survival in the wide open pampas high in the andes hangs on the ability to stay warm. The Indians who have remained in these remote areas west of Arequipa depend on the wool of the alpaca and llamas for their own clothing and to weave items to sell to the growing number of tourists. While the adults work in the fields and other manual labor, the children tend the flocks that graze across the windy plains.
