Reserva Nacional Salinas y Aguada Blanca
– The high pampas of Southern Peru hold abundant wildlife that can be a bit of a surprise to the traveler. There are substantial wetlands above the Colca River valley that are the home for dozens of bird species in addition to the famed Llamas and Alpacas. Flamingos are regularly seen in the clear waters during the winter months - a sight rather disconcerting at an elevation of more than 4,500 meters to those of us raised on the imagery Miami Vice. |
