Lambayeque – Say the name "King Kong" anywhere in the world and the thought of a giantic lovelorn ape comes to mind. But not in Peru. King Kong is a candy cake that has been made in the Northern City of Lambayeque for almost a century. The San Roque factory sits on the Panamerican Highway and still makes the delicacy in the traditional manner - slowly reducing the sweet ingredients in giant copper cauldrons. And the similar name is not by accident. The original cake was introduced about the time of the famous movie and looked a little like a gorilla's chest in terms of texture and color. At least thats the story they tell.
