Chiclayo – The feast of Corpus Christi is one of the most colorful and elaborate of the year for most cities in Peru. The night before the holy day, police shut down the main streets of the city and students and religious groups labor all night to make the ornate carpets on the streets out of sawdust and paint. The Host will be carried over them by the bishop the next day. This is a photo of the Santa Maria Cathederal in the heart of Chiclayo shortly before 5 a.m. on Sunday morning as the groups were nearing the end of their night's labor.
