Chiclayo
– On
the Panamerican Highway between Lambayeque and Chiclayo there is a large
truck stop where drivers picking up and dropping off loads of agricultural
products at the nearby warehouses and yards congregate. There are about
a half dozen men who sit out next to the roadside waiting for customers
manning antiquated Singer sewing machines are held together by rebar welded
to the frame. These men repair the heavy tarps the trucks use to cover
their product. They sew up tears and cover over holes that the long rides
cause. The roads in Peru can be very rough and the punishment of flying
debris takes its toll on these covers. |
