Photographing my world

In my desire to become a freelance journalist, it became obvious I needed to also master a few of the basics of photojournalism. So, armed with a battered Nikon half my age, I have tried to record my experiences on film as much as in words.

Almost every professional photographer I sought out for pointers told me the key to learning was to "take a lot of shots." Which has been the hallmark of my philosophy ever since.

These are simply a collection of the best pictures I have been lucky enough to capture. So please take a look. each image is a link to a larger, more detailed copy. I hope you enjoy seeing them as much as I enjoyed taking them.

As a journalist, I liked to say my specialty was words, not pictures. I left the latter to the experts. So it is with a bit of hesitation I have taken up a camera.

Any expertise you see in my work comes from years of working alongside the best in the business who were kind enough to explain to me what the heck they were doing.

That said, i would especially like to thank Mike Leone and Eric Reed who were kind enough to give me a camera and crash course before I left for Peru.

Most of all I must thank Robert Hart whose advice is always excellent - be it for journalism or life in general.
